DBME Instructor Bios

Megan Smith

Studio Owner

Megan studied several genres of dance including, Ballet Technique-Pointe-Tap-Jazz-Hip Hop-Modern-Lyrical- and Irish Step. She studied Dance Appreciation and History at Middle Tennessee State University. Megan began preparing for her dance career in 1999; 2 years later she became
 a studio dance instructor/teacher. Megan opened her dance studio in 2010. Megan has been a Dance Team choreographer for several local high school teams. She studied dance with The Russian Ballet and performed in their production of "The Nutcracker" 
in 2004. Always looking to improve personal dance skills and knowledge; Megan has taken several dance intensives and workshops in order to gain knowledge and improve dance skills. She studied dance with various groups in different settings such as studio dance, dance teams, and competitive dance. She has studied tap underneath well known Brenda Buffalino. She studied under Nashville Ballet instructor Nancy Ammerman. She studied all styles of ballroom dance under Jamie McCaskill National Dance Club of Murfreesboro. Megan was a part of the minor league Starlette Basketball Dance Team. She was accepted into the New York City Rockettes Summer Intensive Program in 2008 and was accepted in the Tampa, Florida Busch Garden line of performing dancers in 2009. Megan is known to her students to be loving, kind and passionate about God, dance and family. Megan strives to keep the atmosphere at Dance By M.E. a positive one for dancers, staff and parents.

Kenlee Carlton

Studio Manager/Instructor


Soft Tumble-Lyrical

Kenlee has been dancing since 2001. Her love and passion are tap and lyrical. Kenlee danced with previous dance studios for 2 years until she became a member of Dace By M.E. where she had most her training. Kenlee was a part of the Legacy Dance team through Turn Out Dance Studio for 4 years where she excelled her skills and competed with various routines that placed at high levels and recieved many awards. She has a big heart for children of all ages but always connects with the toddlers. Also known as Ms.NeeNee, Kenlee strives to always instill the passion for dance in all her students through positive encouragement and through her choreography.

TJ Patient

Hip Hop

T.J. began his dancing career at the age of 7. He received his training from a local dance studio where he studied and performed for 15 years, and later substitute taught. While in high school T. J. performed with the Riverdale Half Timers. T.J. has excelled in various types of dance, but his specialty is hip hop where he has received many awards and accolades. He also played the lead in the musical hip hop version "Nutcrackin” where he was highly recognized. T.J. has worked at the YMCA summer camps and as an evening hip hop instructor. He is currently a student acquiring a teaching degree. He loves working with children and hopes to instill the love of dance to his students. With a fun loving personallity you are sure to find that his Hip Hop style is creative and full of spunk, Just like TJ.

Katie Gross

Contemporary-Tot Assistant

Katie has had most her dance training through Turn Out Dance Studio now known as Dance By M.E. She has competed/performed with the Legacy Dance Team where she recieved high awards and was recognized for her choreography skills. Katie has a true passion when it comes to dance, she brings it all to the dance floor. Her love for the sport shows through her energy that she brings when she is not only on stage but in studio class. Katie is a people person and always puts forth her best efforts to make all age dancers feel welcome and loved in our studio home. She is a dedicated dancer whos goal is to teach others how to fall in love with dance and let that emotion carry through your movement.

Mariah Winston


Mariah has been immersed in the dancers world since 2011.  She has a strong passion for both Lyrical and Hip Hop. Mariah received her training through Turn Out Dance Studio now known as Dance By M.E. She was a part of outreach competitive and ministry dance teams associated with T.O.D.S. Mariah is known for her level of energy that she pours into her every movement both in the studio and on stage. She is a powerful dancer who is excited to instruct others with a sassy, lively, and playful atmosphere in her Heels class. The point of Heels is to exercise, make friends, and learn how to move and groove in those heels. Heels is offered to Senior + Adult age groups due to the maturity found in the movements, motions, and choreography.

Katie Eklund

Competition Choreographer/Assistant

Dancing has been apart of Katie’s life since 2001. She trained in all aspects of dance for 13 years in her home studio, Danceforce in Savannah, Tennessee. She then went on to dance in college for Bethel University where she received Cheer Sport National Champion title in 2013! Katie works hard to excel her students in performance, technique and transferring the emotion from the heart to the dance floor. She has a strong work ethic and implements the importance of putting forth hard work to her dancers.   

Amarah Perkins

Tot Assistant

Amarah has been dancing with our program since 2013. She is simply a joy to be around. Her smile fills the room and always lightens everyones spirits. She has a drive for dance that excells her with every time she steps foot on the dance floor. She has a big heart for children as she comes from a large family and is always a helpful hand with "littles".

Wendy Moore

Studio Assistant

Wendy has a B.A. in Mass Communication Management with a double minor in speech and psychology. She has a positive and optimistic personality. Wendy is eager to lend a helping hand around the studio and welcome new students with a warm smile. She is very knowledgeable on the business aspects of Dance By M.E. and the dance world. Wendy is crafty, creative and adds a sparkle of imagination to all of her projects. She provides an enthusiastic environment for the studio and all who are around her. Wendy hopes to make your experience with Dance By M.E. a magnificent one!
